The student body has demanded expansion of the production capacity of the existing factory
Diphu : The Bokajan Regional Committee of the All Assam Students Union has expressed their annoyance against the Cement Corporation of India Ltd. Bokajan unit, for its failure in pollution control created by the factory located in the heart of the town.
The student body has demanded expansion of the production capacity of the existing factory. The other demand of AASU is creation of employment opportunities for the local population in the Cement Corporation of India Ltd. Bokajan unit.
The Bokajan Regional Committee of the All Assam Students Union staged a two-hour demonstration in front of the Sub Divisional Officer (civil) Bokajan , Karbi Anglong district.
Activists of the student’s body blocked the road for around two hours from 10.30 am to vent their anguish against the indifferent attitude of the Cement Corporation of India Ltd.
After the protest demonstration, representatives of All Assam Students Union gave a memorandum to the General Manager of Cement Corporation of India Ltd, on the record; the memo delineated their demands and sought timely resolution of their stipulation.
Arnab Kakoti president All Assam Students Union, Bokajan Regional Committee, Sorjun Hanse Vice president and hundreds of students joined the protest demonstration.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the pollution level of areas in and around the industrial unit producing cement is quite high and the existing electrostatic precipitators used for gas cleaning in this cement manufacturing unit are not serving the purpose.
The other issue raised by the student’s body regarding expansion of the factory is reasonable, as this unit of the Cement Corporation of India Ltd is a profit making unit, hence expansion will not only enhance production but can respond to the growing unemployment predicament of the locality.
