Imphal : A 31-year-old man is dead after suffering from wounds from what officials call a “homemade explosive device.”The tribal youth who suffered splinters explosive injuries on his chest at a camp of armed miscreants near Tuibong village about one and a half km from the Churachandpur district headquarters died on the spot in the early hours on Friday, official sources.

Churachandpur district is predominantly inhabited by the tribals – Kukis-Zo and Hmar. After obtaining information from the public, the police and BSF personnel rushed to the spot. The dead body was later handed over to the Churachandpur district hospital for post-mortem. The police also sought the cooperation of the general people in identifying the body of the killed youth.

After having discovered certain items and materials at the scene which had originated from the bomb that exploded, the Police arrived at the conclusion that the bomb was homemade. However, the police said it remains unclear if the maker of the bomb was an expert admitting that it was not difficult to learn it.

Police also expressed that in the ongoing ethnic violence between the Kukis and Meiteis, a good number of locally made bombs are being used to attack each other. Over 160 persons lost their lives in the violence.
