Imphal : A landslide that occurred by heavy rains over the past many days near Irang bridge to Khongsang village along Imphal-Jiribam NH 37 swept away a JCB and a truck, down a 100-meter-deep gorge at around 10 pm on Tuesday, officials source said here on Wednesday.
There was no report of human casualties in the landslide that triggered about 100 meters affecting the transportation of goods-laden trucks from Silchar to Imphal via Jiribam district headquarters bordering the Cachar district of Assam on Wednesday.
The JCB and the truck engaged in the repairing works of the NH-37 were buried over the ground below a 100-meter gorge, official sources said. The risky condition of the highway caused by the landslide has stranded many vehicles on the road.
Officials and authorities concerned have, however, started works on repairing the damages and making the road motorable as soon as possible. Land slights have also been reported in the villages of Rakhui and Awangkhul part wo on NH 37 under the Nohe police station.
Notably, around 70 persons including workers of the Northeastern Frontier and local tribals lost their lives in the land slights on June 29, 2022.
