Imphal : The governments at the centre and state are trying to find a way for a political solutions for the restoration of peace and normalcy in this strife-torn state. This was stated by the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking as the chief guest at a function inside the Sajiwa Jail, Imphal East District on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister who is constantly in touch with the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and other central leaders did not elaborate on how to find out the ways for the political solution to this effect.

However, he said, “The State Government had been putting in every effort to restore normalcy in the State and also to bring back the normal lives of affected people in all aspects.”

He expressed hopefulness that normalcy would return soon and gave credit for this, to the support of various civil society organizations, churches, women’s organizations, and other stakeholders.

The federal government has asked the state’s chief minister to “work harder” and deployed additional security forces but it is concerned that the warring factions may be getting support from Myanmar. Biren informed that security personnel deployed had started carrying out duties at their respective places.

The ongoing ethnic violence erupted on May 3 between the Kukis and Meiteis that cost hundreds of lives and around 60, 000 people were displaced.
