Imphal : Normal life has been thrown out of gear in the valley districts of Manipur on Saturday. Meira Paibis and womenfolks of Manipur are protesting against the Assam Rifles. Apart from it, the Ima market of Imphal city run by the woman traders downed their shutters and remained closed in solidarity with the victims of those killed and injured at the buffer areas of the interdistricts of Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
At various localities in the valley districts, the women staged sit-in protests against the legal notice by the Assam Rifles (IGAR south) to Maheshwar Thounaojam, the national General Secretary of the Republican Party of India (RPI) Athawale.
Inter-district bus services and plying of vehicles from other parts of the country remained idle. The Imphal city also wore a deserted look. Attendants in the government offices were thin and most of the educational institutes remained closed but normal flight services continued as usual. Only the security and police vehicles were seen plying on the roads.
Women vendors said that they were shocked and deeply hurt by the recent unrestrained firings at Naranseina, Phubala, Thamnapokpi, and its surroundings.
