Imphal : Security measures have been stepped up on the NH-37 connecting Imphal to Silchar via the Jiribam district of Manipur following the explosion of two bombs attempting to blow up a culvert bridge at  Leinganglon village in the early hours on Saturday, official sources said.

The bridge was partly damaged due to explosions at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. But vehicles over the bridge are still plying. The bridge was constructed at Leinganglon in between the villages of Longa Koireng and Beiji under the Keithelmanbi police station of Kangpokpi police station, the police said.

Following the incident, the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) launched a Joint operation with Manipur Police and Special Operations Groups (SOG) in the general area of Saram in the Thoubal district of Manipur. The team conducted an extensive search and recovered one 303 Rifle along with a Magazine, two 36 HE Hand Grenades & one magazine each of  INSAS, Carbine, and SLR from YerumChing near Saram Village, Thoubal, police added.
