Manipur Govt appeals to withdraw COCOMI agitation

The State Government has appealed COCOMI to withdraw the mass protest which it has been planning to organize tomorrow on September 6.

Addressing to media persons in a late night press briefing held on Tuesday at the DIPR Auditorium in Imphal, IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan said that COCOMI has been planning to stage a protest at Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung area by breaking into the Army barricades. The state government would like to appeal COCOMI to withdraw this plan.

The Minister further said that the Government has removed many of the barricades already. Moreover, around 700 displaced people of Torbung area, which were taking refuge in various relief camps, have started to come back and resettle in their original houses, which had not been damaged, during the past few days.

The Government has sought the general public and also the civil society organisations to support the various security provisions and steps taken up by the Government.

Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan was accompanied by Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar during the press briefing.

Earlier in the evening District Administration has clamped curfew in Imphal & other valley districts of Manipur on September 6
