TAKDAL calls for early restoration of peace and normalcy in a strife-torn state
Imphal : Normal life on Friday was affected following a two-day statewide public curfew imposed by the Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) demanding among others early restoration of peace in Manipur. The public curfew will be concluded on Saturday afternoon.
Manipur Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi in a statement appealed to all sections of the general public including Public functionaries to continue performing normal activities and functions during the Statewide curfew. Instead, Imphal City wore a deserted look.
All business establishments, shops, vendors, hotels, entertainment houses, and oil depots were closed. No educational institutions functioned during the curfew. Attendance in government offices was thin. Inter-state and inter-district buses did not play. Taxis and autorickshaws too kept off the road. However, flight services were normal.
In response to the call made by the TAKDAL, several people blocked the roads and set on fire the effigies of the Prime Minister, Manipur Chief Minister, and Manipur Pradesh BJP president. several Meira Paibis were seen blocking the vehicles belonging to the Rapic Action Forces near the gate of the Singjamei police station Imphal and returned the vehicles.
TAKDAL is demanding among others to put an end to the over four-month-long violence in the state, allowing the displaced people to return to their homes with adequate protection, driving out all poppy cultivators who are harming the life and integrity of the state, immediate protection for all indigenous people, and for all CSOs to unite and come up with a united decision.
The statewide public curfew is being supported by other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
