Imphal-Dimapur road blocked over the abduction of a 47-year-old man
Imphal : Transportation from Imphal to Dimapur has come to a grinding halt following indefinite NH-02 road blockade agitations in the state on Monday. A women’s vigilante group of Awang Sekmai of te Imphal West district launched an indefinite NH02 blockade agitation against the abduction of a 47-year-old man. Besides, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), also imposed an indefinite economic blockade on this NH since August 18.
On Monday several women blocked the NH 02 Imphal-Dimapur at Sekmai in Imphal West District. They are demanding the immediate safe release of Gurumayum Ingocha (Bobo) Sharma who was abducted by unknown persons from the Maharabi area on the Imphal to Dimapur road under Sekmai police station on Sunday. The agitation would continue till the abducted person is handed over to his next of kin with safety and soul.
According to police, Bobo was abducted by unknown persons who came in a Gypsy without a registration number as per footage of the nearby CCTV. Police said that efforts are on to rescue the missing person as soon as possible. Neither the reason for the abduction nor any group claims responsibility for his abduction so far.
After the report of his abduction spread, the womenfolk of the area demanded the immediate and safe release of Bobo and stormed the Sekmai police station.
