For the past 3 days, Manipur has been experiencing light to heavy rains in different districts

Imphal : Five persons including an Internally Displaced Person sustained injuries in the lightning strikes due to light to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

The lightning struck them when they were at a paddy field located at Keimang Loukon in between Keirenphabi and Khuga villages near the Loktak, the largest freshwater lake in northeastern India at around 2.20 pm on Wednesday.
Of the five injured persons one farmer got serious injuries, the police said.

They were rushed to the Moirang Health Community Centre for medical treatment. An IDP who was taking shelter at a relief camp in Moirang was also injured while he was going with the 4 farmers in the nearby paddy field. Due to ethnic violence that broke out on May 3, over 60, 000 displaced persons are taking shelter at different relief camps in the state.

For the past 3 days, Manipur has been experiencing light to heavy rains in different districts. More rains are being forecasted for the coming 3 days. according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports.
