Diphu : The one-woman enquiry commission of Justice (retired) Rumi Kumari Phukan constituted by Assam government to investigate into the conflict where six persons were killed at the Mukroh village in West Karbi Anglong district in the borderline of Assam and Meghalaya November 22 2022, has submitted its report, on Wednesday to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home and Political Department of Government of Assam.
The filling and suggestions of the report have not been made public up till now. The Commission scrutinized a large number of documents given by the Forest and Home department and also examined witnesses of different organizations.
In that clash a Home Guard and five villagers from Meghalaya, were killed at the disputed location in the wee hours of November 22 last year, followed by seizure of a truck allegedly laden with illegally felled timber by Assam Forest officials.

The disputed area on the Assam side overlaps Makoilum village located inside the general area of Kheroni while the conflict area comes within the disputed border location between Assam and Meghalaya. Both the states have claimed that the killing took place in their respective territories.
Assam and Meghalaya have an old disagreement in twelve regions in the 884.9-kilometer long inter-state border including the Mukroh village. Meghalaya was segregated from Assam in 1972 and since then Meghalaya has been challenging the Assam Reorganization Act, 1971, which is accepted by Assam as its boundary.
