Imphal : An exchange of fire between the cadres of the underground Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and NSCN (IM) took place at the village in Manipur’s Noney district on Sunday. An alleged cadre of the ZUF lost his life and another sustained injuries when the suspected NSCN (IM) activists reportedly attacked Phoibut village about 6 km from Noney police station on Sunday, an official report said. David Gonmei, 36, of the ZUF died of bullet injuries and a ZUF man suffered bullet injuries at Phibut village which is located in between Tupul village in Noney and Bishnupur district of Manipur at around 3 pm on Sunday, the police said. It is reported that the attacks were followed by an exchange of fire between the two groups.

The casualty on the part of the NSCN (IM) is yet to be ascertained. The slain ZUF man was a resident of Khopum village in the Noney district.

The security forces and state police rushed to the spot and the body of the killed ZUF was found and another ZUF also sustained injuries. The injured person was immediately rushed to the nearby health center. Later, the police, security forces, and leaders of the local CSOs held a meeting, the sources. Meanwhile, there is no report from the side of the NSCN (IM).
