N Biren says indigenous communities of the State should continue to live as one
Imphal : Manipur Chief Minister N Biren undertook a helicopter ride at Khoupum Valley in Noneh district, predominantly inhabited by the Nagas, and inaugurated and laid foundation stones for Rs. 196 crore projects on Monday.
Speaking at a function at the Higher Secondary School, Gaidimjang Village, the CM said that the indigenous communities of the State should continue to live as one. He stated that the government will continue to fight poppy plantations and illegal drug business. Interestingly, illegal poppy cultivations are mainly carried out by the Kuki tribals which is one of the root causes of the ongoing communal violence in Manipur.
He lauded the people of both the Noney and Tamenglong districts mainly inhabited by the Naga communities for preserving and protecting the forest cover including in the Khoupum area.
N. Biren said that the present turmoil in the State is quite unfortunate and said Churachandpur, some parts of Tengnoupal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Bishnupur are disturbed, but the State is trying hard to improve the situation. He also called the people to work hard towards returning to normalcy, adding that the government is there to safeguard the lives and properties of the people and will continue to do so.
