Imphal, 26 Sep: In view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state, the Manipur government suspended the mobile internet data services/internet, data services through VPN in the state for five days with immediate effect till 7:45 PM of October 1, 2023.

Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh, Joint Secretary (Home) Government of Manipur issued an order to this effect on Tuesday. The order states that the state government views very seriously and with utmost sensitivity the reported spread of disinformation, false rumors, and other types of violent activities through various social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., on electronic equipment like a tablet, computer mobile phone, etc., and sending bulk SMS likely facilitating and/or damage to public/private property or aggravates the law and order situation in the state.

Any person found guilty of the violation of aforesaid orders will be liable for legal action, the order warns.

Notably, after being suspended for nearly 5 months, internet services were restored in this sensitive border state on September 23, 2023.
