Imphal : A bunker set up by the Kuki militants was destroyed and a total of a dozen of weapons were recovered when the state and central forces intensified operations in the southern parts of the state during the past 24 hours, officials said.
The combined security forces and Manipur police launched an operation at Joujangtek village lying in the interdistricts of Bishnupur and Noney. During the operation, a bunker set up by the Kuki militants was dismantled but the armed men managed to their good escape from the scene, the police said.
The operation was intensified in the Churachandpur district where a cache of arms and ammunition were recovered at a hideout of the Kuki militants in the Churchandpur district, a defense wing press statement stated.
Acting on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police launched a joint operation in the general area of Village Bijang, Churachandpur District, and recovered a huge cache of weapons, ammunition, and war-like stores.
A total of 12 weapons including one Country Made Automatic Rifle, two Carbine Machine Guns, one 9mm Pistol, one Single Barrel Rifle, Seven Improvised Mortars, and war-like stores were recovered. The recovered items have been handed over to Sanaikot Police Station, the statement added.
