The fair aims at bringing in the flavours and the ethnicity of the northeastern states to the City of Joy
An ethnic craft and traditional food fair was rolled out on Thursday in Kolkata at the Assam Bhawan Complex in Salt Lake. Rupohi Haat organised by the Kolkata Assamese Cultural Association (KACA) is inaugurated today by renowned Choreographer and Artistic Dance Director Sudarshan Chakravorty in the presence of KACA President Khanindra Pathak and Resident Commissioner of Government of Assam in Kolkata Tapas Deb.
The fair aims at bringing in the flavours and the ethnicity of the northeastern states to the City of Joy. This gives a hands-on experience to the visitors in acquiring authentic and organic produce from the looms and farms of the northeast. Rupohi Haat will have stalls of various crafts, foods, and clothes brought in by entrepreneurs, SHGs, NGOs, and government-aided organisations of Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. The second edition of Rupohi Haat presented the Himalayan kingdom by bringing in Bhutan as the participating country. The popular group Gangkhar Traders is representing Bhutan with their organic and hand-rolled products.
The morning session had an inauguration ceremony in the presence of Additional Advocate General of Gauhati High Court Parangam Goswami, Liason Officer of Assam Bhawan Kolkata Miranda Das, Social Activist Julie Deka, other dignitaries and participants among others. The three-day fair will also have a musical and poetry evening every day at the venue.
The fair started on the 11th of this month and shall conclude on the 13th of January at the Assam Bhawan Complex, Block LA, Sector 3, Salt Lake, Kolkata.
