Amidst the prevailing atmosphere of uncertainty and apprehension among the people of Manipur regarding the effectiveness of governance, Meitei Leepun an influential socio-cultural organisation of Manipur conveyed its sincere appreciation to the leadership at the Centre applauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh and other stakeholders for their steadfast dedication to the state’s integrity and unity.

 The organisation in a media release also stated that the Government’s resolute step to strengthen our border stands as proof of their commitment to the well being of the people of Manipur. 

 Further, it says that it is with a sense of relief and anticipation that we acknowledge the Government’s resolution to construct a robust fence along the entire length of the 1643 km Indo-Myanmar border. This ambitious undertaking is designed to fortify our territorial integrity and encompasses the establishment of a petrol track along the border to augment surveillance capabilities.

 It also added that this signifies a promising start, with commencement anticipated as early as possible.

 The organisation strongly advocated the implementation of NRC and stated that ‘when these measures represent a notable advancement, we remain optimistic about the simultaneous implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) along with the removal of illegal immigrants from the Scheduled Tribe list’.

Implementing such a measure is considered crucial for realising the advantages of the Government initiative in protecting the interest and welfare of the people it stated.
