Acting on specific information, personnel of Assam Rifles and Mizoram police seized heroin altogether worth Rs. 1.75 crore in east Mizoram’s Champhai in two separate operations on Saturday, an Assam Rifles official said.
A couple and a Myanmarese national were arrested for possessing the contraband, she said.
During joint operation in general area of Melbuk road junction in Champhai district, 124 grams of heroin worth Rs. 86.8 lakh was seized from the possession of Kapneihchhawna (40), a resident of Sadaw in Myanmar, she said.
In another operation, 127 grams of heroin worth Rs. 88.9 lakh was seized from the possession of a couple at Zokhawthar’s New Hruikawn on the Mizoram-Myanmar border in Champhai district, she said.
The entire consignment and the three accused were handed over to police in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings on the same day, the official said.
Assam Rifles personnel also recovered three 12 mm Bore Gubs (single and double barrel) and ammunition and apprehended one person at Mualkawi (Champhai – Zokhathar Road) in Champhai district on Friday.
