Basanti Kar a prominent teacher who retired from Dharmanagar Girls School had breadth her last yesterday in Birati, Nabadarsha Kolkata where she was shifted to a hospital when she was complaining of breathing problem. She was 97 and has lived generally a healthy and active life.

She is survived by her younger sister Srimantasri Gupta. Known fondly as Basanti di, a multi-talented, spiritual soul was loved by all.

She was known for her tenacity and one example that speaks loud about her achievements is that post marriage she continued her studies and completed MA in English, Bengali, and Sanskrit as well as Bisharad in Hindi

Even with failing eyes each day she would continue to read the newspaper with a magnifying glass and complete Crossword.

The news of her demise had brought a nostalgic sadness among all her well-wishers.
