As the Lok Sabha elections approach later this year, prominent Congress figures Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi are gearing up to campaign for candidates aligned with the INDIA bloc in the North East.

While Rahul Gandhi is currently engaged in his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, currently traversing through Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Tripura has been delayed due to prior commitments. However, both leaders are scheduled to address party gatherings not only in Tripura but also in other states across the North East once the official campaign period commences.

“Both leaders will be visiting Tripura to invigorate our party activists who are diligently preparing for the upcoming polls,” stated TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha during a press conference at the party’s state headquarters .

Aiming at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Saha, a former BJP MLA, criticized the rampant corruption within the administration. “From grassroots Panchayats to the highest echelons of state governance, corruption has become endemic. The genuine concerns of the public are being ignored as the ruling party attempts to establish hegemony,” he remarked.

Saha further accused BJP leaders of colluding with drug traffickers, alleging their involvement in transforming Tripura into a major drug transit route. “Reports suggest that certain leaders within the ruling party have been facilitating illicit drug trade for personal gain, despite the Chief Minister’s rhetoric about creating a drug-free Tripura,” he added.

Meanwhile, advocate Mathew Anthony, a senior Congress leader and the party’s communication in charge for the North East, also lambasted the BJP and its policies during the press conference.
