Amid the continuing agitation by various students and social organizations following an unprovoked attack on the activists of the members of the Youth Front of Autonomous State Demand Committee on the 15th of this month, the council authority held a meeting with the victims and leaders of Autonomous State Demand Committee today evening.

The agitation has almost crippled the normal life in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong under the administrative control of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. The Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang has agreed to comply with five point charter of demands of ASDC.

The council authority will pay rupees one lakh to each eleven persons who received injury in the attack of the miscreants on that fretful day beside the damage of their vehicles will also be remunerated.

Most importantly Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority has agreed to carry on the eviction process in the Village Grazing Reserves and Professional Grazing Reserves of West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong district within 30 days.

The Autonomous State Demand Committee has demanded that during eviction no Sixth Schedule tribal people should be evicted and the 2011 judgment of the Supreme Court should be followed.

They have also demanded that all immigrant settlements will have to be evicted. They have also insisted on abolishing all polling stations established inside VGR and PGRs and deletion of names of illegal immigrant voters from voters list.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council have called a people’s consultative meeting at the arboretum cum craft centre of Diphu to discuss the issue of eviction in Village Grazing Reserves and Professional Grazing Reserves of West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong district tomorrow.

Representatives from parties and organizations have been invited to take part in the meeting. It is expected that the council authority wants to build up civic estimation before stepping into the sensitive issue.
