The banned NLFT militants which had once pulverized the interior areas of the state for more nearly two decades are now on the point of reaching an agreement with the union home ministry in exchange for a rehabilitation package before the upcoming Loksabha elections. It was since the year 2015 that NLFT militants and their representatives , specially the in-charge of their external affairs Utpal Debbarma, had been in discussion with representatives of Centre but the ice was never broken.
But the talks , suspended long ago, have been resurrected now with senior officials of the union home mninistry backed by the political leadership taking an active part. The NLFT group currently in talks with Centre is led by its longstanding president Biswamohan Debbarma. Sources aware of the rapid developments on this front said that the union home ministry is trying to clinch twin issues of winning over the opposition ‘Tipra Motha’ and bringing back NLFT into the mainstream through the discussion.
