The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority terminated the services of ten government recognized village headman (Sarkari Gaonbura) yesterday whose village is allegedly located within Village Grazing Reserve and Professional Grazing Reserves of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

This decision of the council authority came after a meeting between the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and several students’ organizations and political parties on the issue of eviction in Village Grazing Reserve and Professional Grazing Reserves of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong yesterday.

The Land Revenue Department of the Council issued the termination notice.

However the Land Revenue Department mentioned the cause of the action as ‘dereliction of duty’. They have been held responsible for not reporting about massive encroachment on Grazing Reserves in their respective areas.

Seven government recognized village headmen are from Dongkamukam Revenue Circle and three from Phuloni Revenue Circle.

Those terminated from Dongkamukam Circle are Dhup Nath Yadav, Chandrasing Rongpi, Dilip Giri, Ram Samuh Chauhan, Nayantara Subba, Jiban Kumar Chetry, Ram Prasad Chauhan. The village headmen from Phuloni circle are Mohonsing Teron, Lakhindar Das, and Sarat Chandra Basumatary.
