“Sucheta”, the Women’s cell at CACHAR COLLEGE, Silchar observed INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, 2024 on 20-03-2024. Due to scheduled HS and University exams, the program had to be deferred until this date. The theme put forward by the United Nations for this noble cause is Invest in Women; accelerate progress. The distinguished speakers gracing the well-attended occasion laid emphasis on this motto.
In keeping with this theme, two lady alumni of the College who have established themselves in noteworthy professions were felicitated. They were honoured as the Guest speakers in this function too. Guest speaker Marream Zuberi, TGT English, Kendriya Vidyalaya, NIT, Silchar, has served as Princpal i/c at various prestigious Kendriya Vidyalayas of the region.
She spoke at length about her journey from a humble childhood steeped in traditions to a liberated education which paved the way for a successful teaching and administrative career. She inspired with her clarion call, “Never give up. The harder you fall, the higher you can rise. We hope to see Women’s day being celebrated as Human rights Day soon.”
The other guest speaker Sanhita Chakraborty is presently Program Executive, Doordarshan Kendra, Silchar. She has won many National level awards of Doordarshan. She highlighted on women’s strengths, fears, deprivations. Economic disparity, rising poverty and climate change hit women the most in any part of the world. A nation can prosper only when its womenfolk are empowered for each strong woman builds a strong household and thus a strong nation.
Two NCC Women Cadets, Mehbuba Begum Barbhuiya and Babli Singha and one Male NCC Cadet Ashish Singha who were selected in the Republic Day Camp 2024 from NER and participated in Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path were also felicitated. Retired
Lady Teachers who served earlier as Presidents, Advisors and Secretaries of this Women’s cell were also felicitated. They are Dr. Roma Purkayastha, Dr. Shamita Nag Dhar, Dr. Sumita Ghosh and Dr. Asima Bhattacharya. Dr. K. Lakhiton Singha and Dr. Sudipa Rakshit could not attend for unforeseen reasons.
The outgoing President, Women’s Cell, Dr. Shilpi Dutta Majumder, HoD, Dept. of Sanskrit was accorded a hearty farewell and the new President, Dr, Paramita Das, HoD, Commerce was welcomed. Secretary Dr. Rumi Rani Laskar and Joint Secretaries, Dr. Shwetosmita Nath and Mm Ankita Ghosh also expressed pertinent views.
Georgina Khaklari anchored the program with poise and conviction.
Many teachers expressed their solidarity with the venture through speeches, songs and self composed poems. They are Dr. Sudip Das, Dr. Padmashree Charaborty, Hemanta Baruah, Dr. Joyobrato Nath, Nayana Goswami, Mr. Duhuidi Terang, and Dr. Maitri Manna. Many other teachers graced the program.
Dr. Puspalata Singha extended the vote of thanks in lucid manner.
