Tripura police have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking with the arrest of two individuals at the Tripura-Mizoram border. The arrest led to the confiscation of Yaba tablets worth rupees six crore concealed in secret compartments of a four-wheeler.
According to police sources, the narcotic substances were ingeniously hidden in secret chambers crafted within the rear lights and beneath the seats. The interception occurred at the Damcherra area, where a total of six bundles of methamphetamine tablets were discovered in the intercepted vehicle.
Each bundle contained 10,000 Yaba tablets, indicating the scale of the operation. The police team, led by OC Damcherra police station Sanjay Majumder, conducted the operation in the early hours of Thursday, resulting in one of the largest drug seizures in recent times.
The arrested individuals, Maman Hossain (34) and Krishna Chandra Sinha (35), both residents of Tripura, are now in custody, facing charges related to drug trafficking.
Yaba tablets, also known as “Crazy drugs,” are a potent combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, infamous for the intense high they induce upon consumption.
SP of North Tripura district, Bhanupada Chakraborty, promptly responded to the scene following news of the seizure.
In a separate incident, two individuals from Tripura were apprehended by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Shillong for carrying contraband items. Joel Tripura (29) and Joshua Khiangte (36), both residents of Damchhara, North Tripura, were found in possession of 11 soapboxes containing 139.98 grams of heroin, along with other incriminating items.
The authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and maintain public safety in the region.
