The Nagaland government has approved to hold urban local bodies (ULB) elections in the state on June 26.

Notably, ULB elections will be held in Nagaland after a gap of 20 years.

Municipal elections in Nagaland were last held in 2004.

The administrative approval for holding ULB elections was given by Nagaland Cabinet during its meeting held on Friday (April 26).

This would be the first-ever municipal elections in the state to be held with 33 per cent women reservation.

It may be mentioned here that tribal bodies and civil society organisations in Nagaland had earlier objected to 33 per cent women in ULB polls that delayed holding the elections.

Nagaland state election commission has revised and updated the electoral roll for all 39 municipal and town councils for the conduct of elections to constitute municipal and town Councils in Nagaland with a view to accommodate the subsequent changes in the roll after November 2022.
