In a significant development for healthcare in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Thursday that GB Pant Hospital will soon be equipped to perform kidney transplant procedures.

The announcement came following his inspection visit to the GB Pant and Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

During his visit, Saha highlighted the ongoing advancements at the hospital, including the shifting of offices to accommodate seven new super-speciality outpatient departments and wards.

“We are aiming to complete these enhancements swiftly to provide comprehensive care under one roof,” he stated, expressing his satisfaction with the progress made thus far.

Additionally, Saha addressed concerns regarding the quality of water within the hospital premises.

He disclosed plans for the installation of an iron removal plant to tackle the high iron content in the water, which is a vital step towards improving health and sanitation standards at the facility.

“We are aware of the iron content in the water at GB Pant, so we are exploring the possibility of installing an iron removal plant. We aim to establish this as a centre of excellence, leveraging the available infrastructure,” Saha added, underscoring his commitment to enhancing hospital facilities.

The Chief Minister also provided updates on the upcoming kidney transplant facilities, a significant leap forward for the hospital’s service capabilities.

“A team of doctors and staff has been sent to Manipur for training, and they have returned. We are preparing to open these facilities soon,” he explained.

This move is expected to alleviate the burden on patients who previously had to travel out of state for such critical procedures.

Saha’s visit also included a thorough review of the neurosurgery and nephrology departments and discussions on medication, equipment maintenance, and quality control with doctors and staff.

The establishment of both the kidney transplant facilities and the iron removal plant is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve healthcare services across the state, with ongoing consultations with the Public Works Department (PWD), the electrical department, and other relevant authorities to ensure all pending works are completed efficiently.

The community and future patients of GB Pant Hospital are optimistic about these forthcoming enhancements, which are poised to significantly boost the quality of healthcare services provided.
