The rising temperature became the reason for the tragic death of a youth in West Karbi Anglong district on Thursday.

The twenty seven years old youth went for a swim in the Kolonga Irrigation Canal located near Dongkamukam town during afternoon hours.

The deceased has been identified by Dongkamukam police as Jotson Bey, a resident of Cheso Kramsa village. The deceased was accompanied by a few friends who were also bathing with him.

The incident occurred when the sluice gate of the irrigation canal was released and a large volume of water filled the canal, the strong vortex pulled him downward and he sank.

Onlookers and his friends however rescued the deceased and rushed him to Dongkamukam Hospital, but the doctor confirmed that he had already expired.
