The Nepali community of Karbi Anglong led by the Karbi Anglong Rai Sabha organized the Kirat Rai Mahasabha at Kara Rongpi village under the Bokajan sub-division on May 23. The event began at 9 AM with the hoisting of the organizational colors by Karbi Anglong Rai Sabha president Kai Kumar Rai.

It is pertinent to mention here that  Kiranti Rai are hill tribes who once possessed considerable power and territory but were reduced to submission by Prithvi Narayan Shah after his conquest of Nepal. Kirati rule in the eastern hills of Nepal ended after the conquest of the Gorkha Kingdom between 1772–1773.

Around thirty two Kirat Kings ruled in the Kathmandu valley for around nineteen hundred years. The Lichhavi dynasty dethroned the Kirat rulers in 158 A D.

The Kirati Population in Nepal is around one million. They speak languages belonging to Tibeto- Burman .

Kirant culture is diverse from the Tibetan and Indo Nepalese ones, although it has been influenced by them through long term contacts. In academic literature, the earliest recorded groups of the Kirati are today’s Yakkha, Limbu,  Rai, Sunuwar, Dhimal.
