When the world’s sixth largest city, Chennai, is going through acute water crisis, Rinku Sharma from Aligarh have come up with his bit of contribution to conserve water. He has been doing this for past 8-9 years now.

Remember back in school, when we used to cram heavy proverbs and idioms for our classes? We never quite paid heed to the touch of reality most of them bore underneath that plain surface of heavy words.

Just like Rinku Sharma, who has proved that ‘little efforts can move a mountain’ and bring in a great change. A resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, Rinku dug up a dozen of ponds in the villages of Chandaus in a bid to conserve water.

Almost nine years back, Sharma started digging up barren lands to collect rainwater. The idea was to raise the underground water level and meet the basic requirements related to water.

According to Sharma, he wanted to solve water crisis issues of his village, hence he first dug up a pool which could collect rainwater.

After observing his effort gradually, more people joined him and they all started digging more pools in the area and nearby villages. The water level then got increased by that time. The collected rainwater helped for irrigation. People started appreciating and joining them for the cause.

The villagers are impressed with Sharma’s attempt to conserve water as it has helped them in dealing with the issue which they used to face at the time of acute water crisis.

We must take inspiration from Rinku Sharma and do our bit to help better the impending water crisis that’s threatening India.
