Guwahati :  Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh is leading by over 1,00,000 votes in Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat over the Congress’ Kulbir Singh Zira, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI), in the trends on Tuesday.

Amritpal, the chief of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), contested the election as an Independent candidate.Singh has been lodged at the Dibrugarh Jail in Assam since April 2023 under the NSA after surrendering to the police.

On April 21, 2023, Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped from boarding a flight to London at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport and sent back to her husband’s home in Amritsar’s Jallupur Khera.

Before his arrest, Amritpal Singh addressed a gathering at the Gurdwara in Rode village of Moga district before his arrest. At least six cases were registered against him in Amritsar Rural and Jalandhar Rural police districts.
