Diphu : In an awful incident, a young woman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Diphu, Karbi Anglong. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on the intervening night of Tuesday, under the command of Diphu Police Station.

The victim has been identified as Hukuri Tissopi aged around twenty three years, was the daughter of Sing Tisso and late Kare Rongpharpi of Virvar Bher Rongpi Gaon, Dengaon.

She was currently residing with her two siblings at Arlong Langso village, located on the three kilometer of Diphu Lumding road of Diphu town.

The family shifted in this locality just two months ago, the new house which is under construction till now. The deceased’s father, Sing Tisso, was informed of the incident by his daughter at approximately 1:30 AM. He immediately notified the police at 1:45 AM. Upon arrival, police officials discovered Tissopi’s lifeless body.

Additional Superintendent of Police Jayanta Kr Baruah stated that a preliminary investigation is underway and the dead body has been sent to the Diphu Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

According to first round reports, Tissopi was fatally shot by unknown assailants, raising serious concerns about the origin of the firearm used in the crime. The weapon, believed to be a pistol, has prompted authorities to question how the miscreants acquired it.

According to Tisso, two boys had come to their home the previous day, asking for drinking water. He suspects that local miscreants are involved in his daughter’s murder.

A neighbor reported that one of the boys had entered the house by digging through the soil. When Tissopi heard the noise and turned on the lights, she saw the intruder, who then shot her in the head with a pistol.

After the horrific incident, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang strongly condemned the occurrence and directed the Karbi Anglong police to investigate the incident. Ronghang has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

He stated about the incident while addressing the media in Diphu this afternoon. On the other hand Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng also condemned the incident and called on the administration and police to arrest the culprits and punish them severely.

The incident has sent ripples of fear and grief through the local community, as residents await further updates from police. Till the filing of this report, no arrests had been made. The police are continuing with their investigation.
