Diphu : In a press meet held today at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Karbi Anglong district, Roland Killing President BJP,Karbi Anglong addressed the party’s recent electoral performance.

He highlighted the extensive developmental work undertaken by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) headed by the Chief Executive Member Dr Tuliram Ronghang, including the construction of roads, bridges, the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), and the Anrunodi scheme.

Despite these efforts, the BJP won the election by a narrower-than-expected margin, with Amarsing Tisso securing victory by 1, 46,603 votes.

Killing emphasized that the party will conduct a thorough analysis of the reasons behind the reduced vote margins in certain Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituencies. This review will take place in the next meeting with BJP leaders and the Karbi Anglong team.

Longsing Tobki, General Secretary of the Assam ST Morcha, shared insights from election day, noting that a senior Congress worker predicted BJP losses in several MAC constituencies. Although initially dismissing these claims, the final vote count reflected this prediction.

Tobki revealed that Congress candidate Joy Ram Engleng and senior Congress leader had instructed his grassroots workers to support the All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC)-backed independent candidate, Jones Ingti Kathar, which contributed to the reduced margins for the BJP.

He acknowledged that the party’s post-poll assessment had failed to anticipate this. Dr. Mongve Rongpi, MAC and BJP Karbi Anglong Spokesperson, responded to media inquiries by announcing plans for a micro-level analysis of booth performance and vote share turnout.

He assured that the upcoming parliamentary board meeting would address these issues in detail. Rongpi also noted that, despite the setbacks, the BJP did not lose any Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC).

The APHLC, meanwhile, claimed victory in nine MAC constituencies within the KAAC jurisdiction. The press meet was attended by several notable BJP members, including former Executive Member Khonsing Rongpi, senior worker Chomang Kro, and BJP worker Bidya Rongpi, among others.

As the BJP prepares for its internal review, the focus remains on understanding the dynamics that led to the unexpected results and strategizing for future electoral success.
