Imphal : The Rilram Area Maring Organisation (RAMO) has uncovered a substantial presence of Myanmar refugees in the Maring areas of Tengnoupal district, Manipur, despite stringent immigration measures in place. The organization conducted inspections in villages near Border Pillars 82 to 89, revealing a significant number of illegal Myanmarese migrants settled within the Lamlong Khunou circle.

According to RAMO, village chiefs alerted them to their struggle in managing the influx of refugees, prompting the investigation. The unauthorized settlers were observed moving freely between Myanmar and India during late-night hours, exploiting what appears to be lapses in border surveillance, particularly near the Assam Rifles outpost stationed nearby.

The State Government seems unaware of this ongoing illegal migration, raising concerns about the effectiveness of border security measures amidst heightened tensions between the KCZ (Kuki-Chin-Zo) and Meitei communities. Since May 3, ethnic violence has escalated, with illegal immigration cited as a significant contributing factor.
