Scanty rain troubled Manipur distributes irrigation pump sets to farmers

The agriculture Department and MOBEDS jointly would be providing 126 irrigation pump sets to the needy farmers. Another 100 pump sets would be procured in next 4-5 days to deal with the situation, agriculture official added.

As part of its counter drought measures,  Manipur chief Minister,  N, Biren Singh distributed irrigation pump sets to farmers to mitigate their woes. 

The irrigation pump sets numbering 40 were distributed under the Economic Development Programme (EDP) scheme of the Manipur Minorities & Other Backward Classes Economic Development Society (MOBEDS).

The chief minister said “such measure is to combat the drought like situation in the State.” 

157 river lift Irrigation (RLI) schemes have started operating to provide water to the paddy fields, he added. Further the chief minister said that the minor irrigation department is working rigorously to provide irrigation facilities in various parts of the State. The agriculture Department and MOBEDS jointly would be providing 126 irrigation pump sets to the needy farmers. Another 100 pump sets would be procured in next 4-5 days to deal with the situation, agriculture official added.

The chief minister further urged the elected representatives to approach the agriculture minister and other concerned ministers for agriculture related support including water pump sets. 

Agriculture Minister Shri V. Hangkhanlian, Forest and Environment Minister Shri Th. Shyamkumar, Education Minister Shri Th, Radheshyam, MLAs and officials of MOBEDS department were present during the function held at the office of the MOBEDS.
