Two bunkers destroyed, weapons recovered in Manipur

Imphal : In wide-ranging measures to ensure security and counter militancy operations, two illegal temporary hideouts/bunkers, suspected to have been used by armed miscreants were demolished in the general area of S Mongpi Ridge of Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

The Assam Rifles in conjunction with the Manipur Police launched the operation on Saturday (July 6) and destroyed the bunkers.  During the operation, the forces also recovered one improvised 303 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one 12-bore single barrel, two long-range improvised mortar, and war-like stores.

This was stated in a statement issued by the Defense Wing here on Saturday.  In another search operation against the anti-socials, the joint team, acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the general area, village Yangoubung in Tengnoupal district, Manipur launched an Area Domination Patrol on Friday.

Here the security forces recovered one lathode gun, one 9mm pistol, four locally made pompi, one locally made mortar, two single barrel guns, and ammunition. The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police.
