KRC TIMES Desk

Everything in the universe has a rhythm and so does music and dance, which encompasses rhythmic beats to soothe our soul.

Bharatanatyam is an Indian classical dance that originated in the Hindu temples of the region of Tamil Nadu. This dance form is a tradition steeped in Indian history and culture. Characterized by precise movements, sharp edges, and expressive body language, this form of tradition has delighted audiences for generations.

Arangetramderived from the Tamil words ‘arangu’ meaning stage and ‘etram’ meaning ascent, that refers ascending the stage with a solo dance. This is the first time a Bharatnatyam disciple performs a full concert by oneself. In the context of dance however, arangetram refers to the graduation ceremony in which the guru presents the pupil to the public. This ceremony has been exclusively confined to the Bharatanatyam dance form only.

Urveesha’s Bharatnatyam Arangetram, a classical dance show curated by Pranjit& Moushumee was organised at the Rabindra Tirtha in Kolkata. The evening showcased a mesmerising presentation of the many variants of Bharatnatyam by Urveesha Hazarika. The whose who of the classical dance forum including Guru Prasahanta Chatterjee, Guru Rita Chakraborty Manna and Chaitali Banerjee were present.

Guru Prashanta Chatterjee expressed his warm gratitude and blessings in presenting Urveesha at the arangetram. He further mentioned her dedication and punctuality towards learning and acquiring the knowledge of the art.

Urveesha is 21-year-old born in Lucknow and raised in Kolkata with her roots in Dibrugarh. She began learning Bharatnatyam from the age of 8. Her foray into Bharatnatyam began as a fulfilment to excel in classical dance. Over time, the encouragement of the family blossomed into a profound passion. She began her formal training under the guidance of Guru Rita Chakraborty Manna.

From the year 2014, she furthered her Bharatnatyam training with Guru Prashanta Chatterjee. Under his guidance, she has successfully completed her 9 year Masters course – Bhaskar in Bharatnatyam, scoring first-class grade with distinction.

Urveesha attributes her inspiration and motivation to her mother who has been her steadfast supporter. From regular practice sessions to travelling great distances for exams, her mother’s unwavering support has been instrumental in her growth and success in Bharatnatyam.

She is currently pursuing Masters in Business Administration at the Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya. A multitalented girl, she is also skilled in mandala art and other forms of painting. An avid swimmer, she excels in tennis, badminton and cricket as well, adding many awards and accolades to her kitty.
