Dhubri : Rakibul Hussain, the Congress MLA from Dhubri, addressed the media, leveling sharp criticisms at the current Assam government and predicting a Congress resurgence in the 2026 elections.

Hussain claimed that a significant number of MLAs are ready to switch allegiance to the Congress. “Many MLAs have openly said they will come to the Congress. I have been involved in floods for a long time, and there is no time for me to talk about frivolous things,” he stated, emphasizing his focus on serious issues like flood management over political squabbles.

He accused the Chief Minister of being preoccupied with internal Congress matters rather than addressing pressing state issues. “The CM is busy focusing on what has happened in the Congress’ Rajiv Bhavan, except where the chief minister is going to have water.

Drugs should be made free,” Hussain said, highlighting the need for the government to prioritize public health and access to clean water over political maneuvering.

Hussain also criticized the BJP’s tactics of dividing people along caste and tribal lines, predicting that such divisive strategies would fail. “Dividing the BJP among castes and tribes will come to an end this time,” he asserted, suggesting that the party’s internal conflicts and the dissatisfaction among its members could lead to its downfall.

He further commented on the current state of the BJP, noting a growing sense of rebellion within its ranks. “The loyal BJP is now in an atmosphere of open rebellion,” Hussain remarked sarcastically, indicating the turmoil and dissent within the party.

Pointing to recent political trends, Hussain expressed confidence in the Congress’s future success. “The way the Congress has won in Telangana without thinking, it is certain that the 2026 Congress government will come,” he said, drawing a parallel between the recent victory in Telangana and the potential for a similar outcome in Assam
