Every worker of the Congress party is standing with Rahul Gandhi,” Ajay Kumar Lallu said
Lucknow : Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will appear before the Sultanpur court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday in connection with a defamation case over alleged objectionable remarks on Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Rahul Gandhi reached Lucknow airport this morning, where he was received by a huge crowd of party workers and supporters.
On the case, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai said, “He (Rahul Gandhi) will appear in court. 30-31 cases have been filed against him across the country to harass him, but the Congress party is fighting bravely.”
Congress leader Ajay Kumar Lallu alleged that the BJP leaders file fake cases against the party MP for fighting for people’s rights.
“A defamation case is registered against him (Rahul Gandhi) in the Sultanpur Court. The leaders of the BJP have been continuously registering fake cases to trouble him but he has always fought for the rights of the public and raised the voice of Dalits, the backward class. Every worker of the Congress party is standing with Rahul Gandhi,” Ajay Kumar Lallu said while speaking to ANI.
The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018. Advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey, the complainant’s lawyer said that Rahul Gandhi on May 8, 2018, used defaming words against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Bengaluru.
“After which BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a defamation case in Sultanpur. Today he (Rahul Gandhi) has to appear in front of a court here. His statements will be recorded today and the proceedings will further take place,” Advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey said while speaking to ANI on Friday.
The case was filed in the District and Sessions Court of MP-MLA Court Sultanpur on August 4, 2018. Rahul Gandhi allegedly made the remarks during an election rally in Bengaluru in the run-up to the Karnataka elections.
