Justice Kotiswar also voiced his deep concern over the ongoing crisis in Manipur, urging collective efforts from all societal sectors to end the violence
IMPHAL : Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, the first Supreme Court judge from Manipur, was honored by the state’s legal community at a felicitation ceremony held at City Convention. The event, co-organized by the High Court Bar Association of Manipur and the All Manipur Bar Association, marked a significant moment in Manipur’s legal history.
Justice Kotiswar, recently recommended for the Supreme Court by the Supreme Court Collegium, expressed profound gratitude to his colleagues, society, well-wishers, and the Collegium for his appointment to India’s highest court.
In his address, he emphasized the collective nature of professional achievements, stating, “Being appointed as a Supreme Court judge is a recognition of collaborative efforts. Professional progress is not solely an individual endeavor but also depends on colleagues and the work environment.”
Responding to questions from the media about pending cases, Justice Kotiswar noted that the Supreme Court is actively monitoring these issues, forming committees, and receiving regular reports. Although he is not currently on the bench handling these cases, he highlighted the unique challenges in Manipur, particularly the lack of infrastructure, which impedes timely justice delivery. He expressed hope to address these concerns if given the opportunity.
Justice Kotiswar also voiced his deep concern over the ongoing crisis in Manipur, urging collective efforts from all societal sectors to end the violence. He called upon the legal community to play a pivotal role in fostering peaceful resolutions, enabling harmonious coexistence in the region.
Reflecting on Manipur’s potential and the rapid development across India, Justice Kotiswar stressed the importance of stability for progress. “The world is advancing rapidly, and Manipur, with its immense potential, should not be hindered by conflicts.
India is a fast-developing nation, gaining significant international credibility. Manipur must partake in this growth, but this is unattainable if the state remains in turmoil,” he stated.
