The unwavering commitment of the Sylheti community in Delhi NCR to their cultural heritage was exemplified at the “Bijoya Sammelan-2024” organized by Sreehatta Sammilani, Delhi. It was held on November 17, 2024, at the NDMC Community Centre,  New Delhi, the event drew an enthusiastic gathering despite the challenges posed by severe air pollution. Coordinated by  Akalabya Dasgupta, this meticulously planned day-long celebration highlighted the rich traditions and unity of the Sylheti community.

The program commenced with a warm welcome and refreshments, followed by the formation of a presidium chaired by Vice President Dr. Nilay Laskar in the absence of the President,  Prithwish Chakraborty. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the formal inauguration, which was accompanied by inspiring addresses from Keshab Misra (General Secretary),  Tapan Chakraborty (Treasurer), and other distinguished speakers. A significant feature of the event was the Gunijon Sambardhana Anusthan, an honorary ceremony recognizing eminent personalities, including  Asim Roy (Chief General Manager, ONGC), Dr. Debajit Palit (Academician), Dr. Paramita Shuklabaidya (Academician), and  Ratnadip Bhattacharjee (Deputy General Manager), ONGC.

The celebration encompassed a variety of activities designed to engage participants across all age groups. Highlights included a “Bose Ankho Protijogita”, captivating artistic performances in music and dance, and engaging indoor games such as balloon pyramid formation, disc throwing, arrow aiming, and tug-of-war. The cultural segment featured enchanting renditions of Sylheti songs by professional artists, complemented by lively music and dance presentations. The traditional lunch provided was both sumptuous and reflective of the community’s culinary heritage.

In the afternoon, a prize distribution ceremony,  sponsored by CHITKARA UNIVERSITY through its Director,  Amlan Purkayastha, recognized the achievements of participants in various categories. The day concluded with the vibrant Dhamail Dance, where approximately 275 attendees participated enthusiastically, accompanied by live music and traditional songs.

The program was anchored by former Secretary  Ajitesh Dutta, whose seamless hosting ensured the event’s smooth execution. The sense of camaraderie and unity among participants was palpable throughout the gathering. The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by  Keshab Misra, General Secretary, who expressed his gratitude to the main sponsor, PETRONET LNG LIMITED, as well as all other contributors. Thus, another remarkable chapter in Sreehatta Sammilani Delhi’s legacy of cultural celebrations was formally concluded.
