He also suggested a few remedies
The recent turmoil in Bangladesh led to religious persecution, threat of life, forced conversion, land grabbing, torture, humiliation, rape, etc. has created anarchism and ethnic cleansing. The fractured law and order situation of the country is crippling the very existence of the minority communities especially the Hindus. The present care-taker govt has so far failed to ensure the safety and security of the minority communities, wrote Bidhayak Das Purkayastha a self-employed engineer, writer, social worker from Guwahati to Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, CM of Assam, Tripura and West Bengal appealing to the Central & State Governments on the present crisis of Bangladesh.
He further asserted that ‘At this juncture, if the persecuted Hindus stealthily cross the Indian borders to take refuge in India to save their lives, do they deserve detention behind bars as enshrined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)?
I humbly appeal to the Central government and the various State Governments to take immediate measures to protect the lives of the religiously persecuted families in that country and also the persons who illegally cross the Indian borders out of fear and agony to protect their lives, echoed Purkayastha in his letter.
He also suggested a few remedies and wrote that the government of India should consider the humanitarian aspects of the crisis in the following:
a. Temporary relief camps should be set up in the bordering areas of different states and arrangements of providing relief to the victims for their very survival.
b. Arrangement of issuing ‘Border-Slips’ to the victims should be considered.
c. Once the situation comes to normal the temporary relief camps may be withdrawn. Temporary Stay Certificate in India (TSC) mentioning every detail may be handed over to the persecuted families and they are asked to return back to their place of origin.
d. Take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the minority communities of Bangladesh permanently through bilateral treaties, as it is a recurrent problem badly affecting both countries.
He hoped that his appeal be considered and take the necessary measures to protect and preserve the rights and privileges of the ill-affected Hindus of Bangladesh and thereby uphold the dignity and sanctity of our motherland.
