CA Day 2019: Charted Accountant Day is observed today (July 1, 2019) to celebrate the foundation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
On 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟏𝐬𝐭, 𝟏𝟗𝟒𝟗, an act of Parliament gave birth to the 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 (𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐈).
Founded a year before the Constitution of the country was formalized, the ICAI counts itself among the oldest professional institutions in the country
The 𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐈 is the 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 for the 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 in India.
To be a part of the ICAI’s member list as a bona fide Chartered Accountant is a prestigious honour indeed – one that is celebrated every 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲, as the 𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐈 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲.
Proclaiming the responsibility of Chartered Accountants, the first President of India, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐝 had said on his visit to ICAI in 1954: The fast increasing tempo of the industrial and economic development of the country makes it imperative that every Chartered Accountant should realize that he belongs to a profession which provides the first line of defense to the unwary public against money grabbers and opportunists. Your responsibility in this matter becomes all the greater because of the autonomy, which your profession enjoys.
