Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India organized a Brainstorming & Discussion on the theme of “Metabolic disorder and uses of medicinal plants of NER” at IBSD, Imphal on Tuesday with the active leadership Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, Imphal to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” with the involvement of renowned scientists and experts in the field of metabolic disorder.
The deliberations by the resource persons related to the metabolic disorders the resource persons enriched the knowledge and interest of the students and researchers of IBSD.
Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD while welcoming all the guests and participants; highlighted various research initiatives taken by IBSD in the field of metabolic disorders to explore the rich bioresource of NER. Dr. Niloo Srivastava, Scientist, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi highlighted various aspects of research and development of botanicals to inspire the young researchers to pursue their research work enthusiastically.
Dr. Ravinder Goswami, Professor, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, protrudes on the different unmet needs for metabolic disorders with special emphasis on Diabetes and its clinical complications. Dr. Jatin Kalita, Scientist, North East Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam addressed the gathering and emphasised the research ethics and its importance for pursuing a research career.
Dr. Pushkar Dev, an Ayurvedic Practitioner from New Delhi discussed different complications and treatment procedures to treat and manage diabetes and kidney stones. Dr. Sanjay K Banerjee, Associate Prof., National Institute of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education Research (NIPER), Guwahati discussed several crucial and contemporary issues in the exploration of natural products in cardio-metabolic disorders. He also addressed the young researchers to collaborate for strengthening their translational research outcomes.
Another senior scientist Dr. Ajay Kumar from Translational Health Sciences and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad delivered a lecture on different phenotypic models for drug development in metabolic disorders.
Dr. Prasenjit Manna from CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat has addressed the gathering and explained in detail the application of plant-based traditional medicine for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
Other scientists namely Dr. Tulika Goswami, Professor, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam; Dr. AKS Rawat, Director, Former Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow and Dr. Jeemon Panniyammakal, Associate Professor, SCTIMST, Trivandrum also highlighted different aspects on drug discovery and development by exploring plant bioresources of NER in metabolic disorders.
