Instead of invoking the names of divine Gods and Goddesses it would have been good for the parties to discuss their mission and vision for the state

KRC TIMES Desk

The ongoing campaign trail by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress is full of theatrics. Religion has overshadowed the vision of the political parties. It is true BJP is fishing in troubled waters in Karnataka. Its star campaigner Prime Minister Modi is campaigning extensively in Karnataka.

Will his efforts bring the desired result for BJP? The answer to this question lies in the womb of time. Congress at one point in time used to project itself as a truly secular party.

Following the emergence of BJP in the national scene it is now emulating the footsteps of the saffron brigade. However, it also needs to be admitted that Congress has always used the minorities as its vote bank.

The rebirth of BJP in a new avatar has changed the entire political discourse in the country. Karnataka is a very important state for the BJP. It cannot afford to lose this state.

For the Congress this victory will boost the morale of its cadres who have already become demoralised. In a democracy it is the people who take the final call.

The need of the hour is to seek report cards from our elected representatives ahead of every election. Instead of invoking the names of divine Gods and Goddesses it would have been good for the parties to discuss their mission and vision for the state.

To a common man a good quality road is more important than a temple or a mosque. Let the parties change their discourse and debate on issues that really concern the common people. Let us continue to consider religion as a private affair.

Hopefully it will ring a bell in the ears of the high and mighty.
