The northeast at present has a reason to celebrate. Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on Friday.

The Budget allocated Rs 6,070 crore for the Special Accelerated Road Development program.
The programme also intends to cover the 1559 km Tawang-Kanubari Trans-Arunachal Highway and the ambitious Kaladan Multi-Modal Transport Project.
To revive 50 airports of the region, Rs 69.99 crores has been allocated and another Rs 100 crore has been proposed for the helicopter service of the nation. The biggest share of funds has been directed for the development of infrastructure sector huge amounts have been allocated for Aajeevika- National Rural livelihood Mission and for the MSME sector.
The focus has been given to the plantation workers of the region and for the maternity schemes. As promised before the election, the BJP Government is keen to develop tribal autonomous councils, Naga-dominated hill areas in Manipur and border areas across the northeast.
With an objective to get all households on the power grid by 2022 allocation of Rs 313.5 crore has been set aside excluding the states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. As these states are located on a very sensitive zone, their power transmission and distribution have been segregated.
The Kameng Hydro Electric Project also has been in the development list. Due to the difficult terrain of the northeast, drinking water always has been a problem. Rs 1,999.47 has been allocated for drinking water.
To strengthen the education and health sector, considerable amounts has been allocated for teachers’ training institutions, Rs 4,700.1 crore for three medical institutes, Rs 350 crore for the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences in Shillong.
