Our strength has always been our uniqueness and our ability to punch above our weight

M. Asnikumar Singh

On this day, in the year 1972, we attained full-fledged statehood. Today, we, the people of this beautiful state celebrate our 49th Statehood Day.

In almost half a century, the state has made its mark in numerous fields. However, if we take into account the abundance of natural talents and natural resources we are endowed with, we have lots of unfilled potentials. And, in this age of multi dimensional growth and often uncompromising competition, there is always room to improve for a state like ours.

With visions and goals for a peaceful and progressive state, let us dedicate ourselves to achieving that objective. Bygone years might not have been the best for us or as we wanted, but we can shape the state’s future. On this day, let us all, with conviction and mutual trust take a stand to work hand in hand for a united, prosperous Manipur. As a Manipuri, I feel proud to say that a new Manipur is beginning to take shape (since the last 3 years),one that is free of the negativity that was always associated with the state’s image to the outside world. However, much more has to be done to catapult Manipur into a higher orbit of development.

The wheels of development can move swiftly under a collective winsome. Our strength has always been our uniqueness and our ability to punch above our weight. These attributes coupled with our rich cultural heritage have always been our backbone. Strength lies in unity and cohesiveness. This has never been more relatable than in our state, which has always taken pride in its diversity. On this day, let us all take a pledge to work hand in hand so that we can finally put this alluring land on the pedestal it was always destined to be on.

Hopefully, by the end of this year, Manipur and its people will have defeated the coronavirus comprehensively.

Better days lie ahead. Let us all make sure those days arrive sooner rather than later.

Long live Manipur.
