An Unrequited Love

Jay Sur

An Unrequited Love

You solicited me,
convinced me that
I was made for you.
You called me day and night,
professed your love,
proffered endless commitments…

When I was just a bud,
you promised to enflower me.
I melted instantly,
like a spoon of butter over a pan,
unprepared I was, for this event.
I fused with your thoughts,
surrendering to the hilt
my unalloyed psyche to you…

Flowing with your sentiments,
I never told you,
I always thought of you.
Kept my mind occupied,
gazing at your picture,
forgetting my sorrows and pains.
Surprised, perhaps, you’d be
to know I carried you within,
like a river cradles pebbles
in its virgin heart…

You didn’t know
how distressed I became,
how I left everything,
rushed to stand by you,
only for you, my dear man…

But, did you ever try to know
my deep emotions?
Do you have an inkling
how you blended into
each layer of my thoughts,
my ambitions with you?
Do these thoughts
bring you joy,
or did you brush them off,
dismiss them
like dusting off your clothes…?

You might do as you wish,
but I can’t desire so,
since I am bound by your love,
your inner persona,
by chains of fathomless affection.
Today, as you’ve nimbly
turned away completely,
maybe I would find liberation
in my downfall…

Dear man,
I still thrive on that fine line
of your reacceptance or revoke,
sustaining intensely,
truly living with a simple hope,
you’ll return to this homespun girl,
who hasn’t thought
of anything else but you.
Turn back,
an unrequited love is agog here
the morning sun is yet to ascend,
my dear man…
