A Click Away from Deceit

One day in cyberspace
a mysterious beauty appeared,
a friend request from a siren,
just 20 years old and so bold,
With a profile picture
that shone like a star in the night,
I was drawn to her beauty,
like a sailor to a lighthouse light…

My curiosity was piqued,
like a moth to the flame,
I accepted and our conversation
became a dangerous game,
I, a 75-year-old man,
with wrinkles deep and gray,
was flattered by her compliments,
in a most unexpected way…

She called me handsome,
with a wink and a flirtatious flair,
and I felt like a king,
with a heart full of pride and air,
but I knew our ages differed,
like a winter’s night
and a summer’s breeze,
and I wondered what she wanted,
with a curiosity that froze…

She asked to discuss “adult things,”
with a sly little grin,
And I played along,
but my version was far from her sin,
I spoke of creaky joints,
like an old wooden floor,
and about the stents
that keep my heart beating,
like a ticking clock on the wall…

I told her of my dentures,
like a pirate’s missing tooth,
and laxatives that keep me regular,
like a loyal little youth,
But perhaps my honesty
was too much for her to bear,
for she blocked me,
like a door slammed shut,
without a care…

But then she sent a message,
with a tone so sweet,
“Meet me in person and
let’s make our friendship complete.”
I knew it was a trap,
a trick of the trade,
And I declined with a wisdom
that came with age…

So let this be a lesson,
to all who roam the net,
respect your age,
don’t fall prey to cybercrime’s
deceitful threat,
be wary of strangers,
with flattering words so sweet,
and remember,
honesty is the best policy,
to keep your dignity complete…
