Poem | “Checkmate”

< 1 - minutes read |

Praying for Peace from the present pandemic

Shilpi Bhattacharjee

Some are busy to checkmate the Death

Breaking all grounds for saving a soul

Many have left life without a wreath

Still, others fighting for a golden goal

Next to God they or God in disguise

Locked wooden doors not letting to see

Myself a layman am not a wise

Dreaming to fly someday being free

Some are in ways that were trodden once

Praying urging stretching all help

Trying to stop steps leaving no chance

Never has a moment to think for self

But busier than them is you and me

Time gives abundance moment to think

To argue to fight to prove and see

Whose the best let the other sink

Let virus to die without versus to grow

As meanness pervades true rational word

Only love has power to cure I know

But bewildered this earth now a wingless bird

The only thing now that we can do

Waiting for heaven to heal each mind

Alone can’t be I need you too

Begging compassion for dying mankind.
